Winding a Breitling

Winding a Breitling

Breitling watches are renowned for their precision, durability, and innovative design. Whether you own an automatic or manual Breitling, understanding how to wind your timepiece correctly ensures its longevity and accuracy.

Winding a manual Breitling watch

If you have a manual Breitling, it requires daily winding to keep it running smoothly. Follow these steps:

  1. Locate the crown: The winding crown is on the right side of the watch case.
  2. Unlock the crown: Turn the crown counterclockwise to release it.
  3. Wind the watch: Rotate the crown clockwise approximately 40 full turns until you feel resistance. It is important you do not force it beyond this point.
  4. Secure the crown: Push and screw the crown back down to ensure water resistance.

Winding an automatic Breitling watch

Breitling automatic watches are powered by wrist movement but may need manual winding if left unworn for extended periods.

  1. Unscrew the crown: Turn it counterclockwise to release it from the case.
  2. Turn the crown clockwise: Wind it 40–50 times to build up the power reserve.
  3. Ensure movement: If the second hand starts moving, the watch is ready to wear.
  4. Secure the crown: Screw the crown back down to maintain water resistance.

Always wind your Breitling watch clockwise, as turning it counterclockwise does not add power. Be careful not to over-wind, as too much force can damage the movement. Additionally, avoid setting the date between 8 PM and 3 AM, as this can interfere with the date-change mechanism. For expert guidance or servicing, consult an authorized Breitling retailer.
