Winding an Omega

Winding an Omega

Owning an Omega watch is a celebration of precision, innovation, and heritage. As a brand deeply rooted in Swiss watchmaking excellence and space, sea, and sports history, Omega timepieces are built for both style and performance. To keep your watch running at its best, understanding the correct way to wind it is essential. Whether your Omega features a manual or automatic movement, here’s how to ensure it stays powered and precise.

Identifying your Omega watch type

Before winding an Omega watch, determine whether it has a manual or automatic movement.

  • Manual watches require regular winding to maintain power.
  • Automatic watches wind themselves through wrist movements but may need manual winding if not worn for extended periods.

Winding a manual Omega watch

  1. Locate the crown on the right side of the watch case.
  2. Ensure the crown is in its default position (fully pushed in).
  3. Turn the crown clockwise gently, around 30-40 full turns until you feel slight resistance. Avoid forcing it beyond this point.
  4. Once wound, the watch is ready to function. No further action is needed until the power reserve depletes.

Winding an automatic Omega watch

  1. If the watch has stopped, manually wind it to restart the movement.
  2. Keep the crown in its normal position (if it has a screw-down crown, first unscrew it by turning counterclockwise).
  3. Rotate the crown clockwise approximately 25-30 times to ensure an adequate power reserve.
  4. Wear the watch regularly to keep it self-wound through natural wrist movements.

Important tips to avoid damage

It’s important to never overwind a manual Omega watch, so you should stop as soon as you feel resistance. Do not set the date on your watch between 8 PM in the evening and 3 AM in the morning, as the date-changing-mechanism might be in motion during that time. Ensure a screw-down crown is secured after winding to maintain water resistance, and consider using a watch winder if you have multiple timepieces and do not wear your Omega daily.

Regular winding ensures your Omega maintains its precision and longevity. For more in-depth care, consult your model’s manual or seek assistance from an Omega-certified watchmaker.
